Rusty Zipper and the Purse Diva: Vintage Heaven

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I have no reservations about my love for vintage. It is the easiest, cheapest way to get a unique outfit. You know that you won’t see anyone else wearing your ensemble when you go vintage. In the past, I would mainly shop at Thrift stores to score my vintage finds, lately, I have been turning to the internet. Ebay is an obvious choice to look for vintage items but it can also be expensive. If 12 people are bidding on the same dress you can be assured that it will end up in the triple digits. The thrill of the hunt is also lost on Ebay because you can easily find good vintage on the auction site. For these reasons, I don’t hunt for vintage on Ebay.

One of my favorite past times is browsing the internet looking for new online vintage stores. 1000’s of stores exist and in all different price ranges. Two of my favorite stores are the Rusty Zipper and the Purse Diva. Both of these stores have a very large selection of reasonably priced vintage items. You may have to dig around a little to find something fantastic.

Here are a couple of dresses that I found on both sites:

La Belle Stretch Dress from 15DollarStore.com

dresses-la-belle-stretch-panel-dress.jpg

I love this dress - the style, the necklace… but not so much the color. I do like the color, I’d just like it better if it was red, or black, or a dark brown, instead of tan. Oh well, I do still love it. And hey, it’s only $15. :)

Acrobat V-Neck Dress from Bluefly.com

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

For my first post here, I bring you a post about an absolutely adorable dress. :)

Acrobat Dress from Bluefly.com

This cotton candy pink v-neck dress is a perfect spring/summer dress. Originally $64, you can get it at BlueFly.com for $32.30 on sale (originally $38). Made of mid-weight woven linen, this dress has a crocheted trim around the neck, with under-bust trim. This dress ties in the back and is unlined (so you may want to get a slip to wear under it - unless you want people to see your bra). They currently only have one size available (medium), so if you want this dress, you’d better step on it!

Sale @ Macy’s, Here I Come

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

paisley_wrap.jpgAlbeit it’s in the Sale section, Yes Bargain Styling shops at Macy’s :) . Like this Paisley-Print Wrap Dress from London Times. It used to be $99, it’s now selling for $28.99. Who would say no to that bargain? . This dress can be worn with any pair of black heels. I suggest a slingback. Where to wear it? Anywhere actually, well except when you’re doing your grocery shopping, heh. Church, Date Night, Party at the office, the possibilities are endless. During the Fall season, you can wear it with a black knee-high boots for that sophiisticated approach to the cold weather. So that $28.99 sale is worth the money. :)

Strapless Bow Front Mesh Dress

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

15_meshdress.jpg

Another great find from the $15 store. Ahhhh, I love the dark cobalt blue color. That’s what initially drew me to this piece. See, my husband said I look really good in dark hues of blue, hence me falling in love with the navy blue polka dot wrap dress that I found from the same store last week. I’m still looking for a perfect pair of navy blue pumps that I can afford of course :) . Anyway, back to the dress. This strapless, bow front mesh dress is from Jonathan Martin. There’s is a smocking on top along the upper back so your boobs are very well protected :) . If you like this one, grab it ASAP coz it’s also among their “last call” list.

GAP 75% OFF Spring Sale

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

2gap_75.jpgGAP is getting rid of their Spring items by taking 75% off the original prices. NICE. If only I shop there a lot. Or if I shop there at all..LOL. I mostly go to the GAP Kids. For some reason, the sales clerk at the Kids department are more friendly. They greet people as they come in and very accomodating while you’re perusing the children’s clothings. While on the other side of the store are a bunch of snotty clerks who couldn’t be bothered to smile at anyone. They’re usually behind the counter gossiping about someone. This is my experience from the few GAP stores I’ve been to anyway. Maybe because I was pushing a stroller that they thought “OMG, she couldn’t possibly afford and wear GAP clothes”. Ah, the humanity.

Now that I gotten that off my system, let me show you the stuff I would buy from their 75% off Sale if I shop there.

gap_eyelet_skirt1.jpggap_polka_skirt1.jpg

First skirt is light blue geometric eyelet skirt. I love the flirtyness of it. If you’ve known me long enough, you know I adore eyelet designs. As much as I love polka-dots prints like the second skirt. It has a ruffle pleated trimmed waist with ribbon belt. The hem is tiered. Purrrrrty.

gap_white_dress1.jpg gap_black_dress1.jpg

Of course when I saw this white tiered empire dress, I had to include it in my virtual shopping cart :) . You know I love white dresses, especially the eyelet ones. I couldn’t say no to the black eyelet empire dress either. The ruffled trim and scallopped hem weren’t too shabby either.

I might have a few more coming up from the GAP 75% OFF SALE. Virtual shopping is definitely more enjoyable than shopping at their store, heh. Except the Children’s section. I love them, just want to reiterate that part :).

How about you take advantage of their sale yourself. Do it virtually or at their store, your pick :)

What I Wore : Belted Dress W/ Jeans

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

bluedress_denim.jpg

bluedress_denim2.jpg

bluedress_denim3.jpg

I would’ve worn my Red Heels with this ensemble to match the red wide belt but I decided I’d continue wear the black heels since I wanted to wear my long cross necklace and black beads dangling eaarings. I’m glad I opted for it coz the red belt accentuated the whole look by itself. I would wear this dress by itself but my legs are still nursing a few more scars from the bug bites I’ve gotten 2 weekends ago.

Look of the Week : White and Brown Combo

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

I don’t know if it’s a fashion rule or not but it seems when someone is wearing white, you could always expect something black as an accessory. Well not Midwest_Jess. She accentuated her beautiful white dress with nature tones. From the purse, to the Dior scarf she cleverly wrapped around her wrist and the strappy shoes.

white_dress1.jpg

I love how she put the collar up as well. I’m going to follow her suit and do a white and brown combo sometime coz I too unconcsiously do the white and black combo all the time.

*Thanks to wardrobe_remix*

What I Wore : Gray Mini-Dress with Slim Trouser

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

I wore this gray mini-dress, slim black trouser and heels ensemble to Church on Mother’s Day. It was actually a last minute decision coz I planned days before to wear a white dress but my legs are tattered with bug bites from when my husband and I lounged in our deck Friday night. My husband was spared but for some reason I always end up being bitten, incessantly. We used the same bug spray for crying out loud. He said maybe because I’m too sweet. Perhaps, :)

mini_gray_dress.jpg

mini_gray_access.jpg

mini_gray_shoes.jpg

I usually wear this color during Fall season but I thought I could get away with it right now by accentuating it with a pink beads necklace and pink beads bangle bracelet. Wearing a mini-dress over a trouser worked perfectly for Church in my opinion. This would also work for a date night out with hubby. For a daytime regular look I suggest wearing the mini-dress over jeans.

Metro7 mini-dress from Wal-Mart, on sale for $3. Black slim trouser which I don’t remember where I bought it..lol, sorry. Black strappy heels from PAYLESS. If I remember it right, I think it was a BOGO purchase 3 years ago.

Wedding Dress From TARGET by Isaac Mizrahi

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

A very dear friend and avid reader of Bargain Styling informed me of this new press release from Target. Apparently, the wedding dresses will range form $9.99 to $159.99.

“My bridal gowns are all reinventions of the classics, providing an affordable alternative for women everywhere,” says designer Isaac Mizrahi. “I put a lot of design energy into designing this collection for Target because every bride deserves to find the gown of her dreams, regardless of her budget. Every woman remembers how she felt on her wedding day for the rest of her life, so ensuring she feels confident in the ‘perfect’ dress is very important to me.”

Read more about it here.

So the question is, Would You Buy a Dress from Target? I would, but not the $9.99. I love bargains but that price for a wedding dress?, That’s a little risky. Bear in mind, Isaac’s first foray into fashion was high end. I remember a documentary with him and the best supermodels in the world : Cyndi Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell. I remember vividly how Naomi was whining backstage because Linda keeps getting high heels while she gets the flats all the time. Was that a sign to Naomi’s future? Hitting employees with cellphones. LOL.

Anyhooo, so woud you buy Issac’s wedding dresses from Target?

Bold Print Dress # 4

ramp_halter1.jpg

Originally $66, now on sale for $29.99 from Rampage. This black and white flower print halter dress is definitely a great find to add to our Bold Print dress series.

Bold Print Dress #3

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

kimono_print_dress.jpg

Now this is just stunning. Deep V-neck Japanese Kimono style print dress with flared sleeves and wide solid black trim details. I just love it. It’s $49.95 from Chic Star. It also comes in black and red but this blue one is my favorite :).

Bold Print Dress #2

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

geo_print_dress.jpg

To continue our Bold Print series, here’s a geometric print pink and white double surplice neckline dress. With ruched sleeves and a solid band around the waist that ties in the back. I found this Rampage print dress at Amazon for $50.99. I’m not much for a round toe flats but I think it will go nicely with this dress. Or a 3-inches high pumps, either way, you’d look fabulous in it :).
