Americas Basics: Comfy, Affordable Tees

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

I recently tried out Brooklyn based company’s Americas Basic tees. Having some cotton basic tops is a great asset to anyone’s closet. Here’s a review of Americas Basics.

In this photo: Racerback Ribbed Tanks - Salma ($6.90 - white), Tank Top With Body Hugging Ribbing - Sara ($6.90), and Summer Casual Short Dress - Jennifer ($8.50 - Fresh Green)

* Sure you can pick up a ribbed tank top anyday at Old Navy. What I liked about Americas Basics is how soft the shirt was and the shape it had to curve with your body and not just hang like a cheap tank does. I LOVE the Summer Casual Short Dress… but um.. it’s totally a shirt. Whoever is wearing this as a dress has got to have one nice can. But it’s a really cute top.. The elastic part acts as a band for the shirt to fall over it for a loose, beautiful top with a built in bra. At that price, I might stock up on Christmas gifts for my girlfriends. I Highly Recommend It!
Overall Rating: B+

Tips for dressing appropriately

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

bj_bunny
There’s nothing I hate more than being dressed incorrectly for an event — overdressed when everyone else showed up in jeans, showing up in jeans when everyone else is in black European wear, not knowing the difference between formal and business formal.. Sometimes you really don’t know.. But it can take once or twice showing up in the wrong wardrobe to make you never ever want that to happen to you again..

So lets take a look at some invite scenarios:

Business casual, formal, black-tie, girl’s night, first date, interview and MORE..!!! (more…)

Quality Instead of Quantity

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

untitled
How many times have you looked in your closet that’s full of clothes and said to yourself - I have nothing to wear.

It’s a common feeling.

But keep these helpful hints in mind when shopping:

Doubt means don’t – If you’re not totally sure about it, don’t buy it or it’s going to be another shirt or dress hanging in your closet that you don’t wear.

Buy clothes that you look and feel great in. — Don’t buy clothes that already need major alterations. Pant hems are a total exception, but just because it’s on clearance does not mean it’s a steal. You’re going to have to get it altered, it may never fit right and you’ll never wear it.

Here’s even more things to thing about when you have nothing to wear and you really ought to be thinking quality over quantity. (more…)

I love Oprah and her cabinet of advisors. Among that cabinet is Adam Glassman who shares tips on fashion including a recent - How to Dress Better for Work - and a list of great work buys for under $100. Here’s a little bit of what he had to say:

A ruffled neckline feminizes a practical wool-blend shift; layer it with a turtleneck, blouse, or cardigan, or wear on its own this spring.
