Americas Basics: Comfy, Affordable Tees

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

I recently tried out Brooklyn based company’s Americas Basic tees. Having some cotton basic tops is a great asset to anyone’s closet. Here’s a review of Americas Basics.

americanbasics-002
In this photo: Racerback Ribbed Tanks - Salma ($6.90 - white), Tank Top With Body Hugging Ribbing - Sara ($6.90), and Summer Casual Short Dress - Jennifer ($8.50 - Fresh Green)

* Sure you can pick up a ribbed tank top anyday at Old Navy. What I liked about Americas Basics is how soft the shirt was and the shape it had to curve with your body and not just hang like a cheap tank does. I LOVE the Summer Casual Short Dress… but um.. it’s totally a shirt. Whoever is wearing this as a dress has got to have one nice can. But it’s a really cute top.. The elastic part acts as a band for the shirt to fall over it for a loose, beautiful top with a built in bra. At that price, I might stock up on Christmas gifts for my girlfriends. I Highly Recommend It!
Overall Rating: B+

Mod Clothes

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

I’ve seen this site before and often see a display ad for it on Facebook - but my friend sent me a link to it - and I’ve finally decided to write about it.

Mod Clothes: What is the mod look? Vintage - like you found the coolest items at a thrift store - effortless yet chic - a leader not a follower in your clothing - colorful - individual

Shoppers Remorse

Monday, July 13th, 2009

buyers_remorse_51109_m
There are 2 kinds of Shoppers Remorse.

1) I shouldn’t have bought that. It’s silly, didn’t even fit me right… or… I can’t really afford it.
2) I will wait and think about it. Returning on your second visit to buy the item, you learn it’s sold out or no longer available in your size.

Here are some tips on how to deal with shopper remorse - but really more so with the first kind listed above. (more…)

Where to get a deal on work out clothes?

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

workout_clothes
I would like to dedicate this entry to Alex - my new walk/run partner. Alex always wears this American Apparel-esque t-shirt that says something about I’m from these great mountains. When I comment on the shirt, she just says - yeah, I hate this shirt, I need to go shopping, don’t want to spend alot, etc and so on..
So here are some great places to snag some deals on work out clothes:

1. TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, and Ross: These type stores can be so overwhelming with their amount of inventory, but luckily their work out clothes are all on one aisle. You’ll find out pretty quickly if there’s something there you like and in your size. I got a great pair of brand name running shorts for less than $10.

2. Target: Always have mad love for Target, but they have a good selection and designs for work out clothes. Tip: Be sure to check out their clearance racks. They usually have a lot of sport tops on them, but even their smalls run a little large. If you’re petite, you might not be able to shop this section.

3. Sports Authority and REI: Their normal rack costs at these stores can been a little high, but there’s usually always something on their clearance rack that is super cute. Def worth a trip ’cause they’re high quality products.

Moral of the Story: You don’t need alot of work out clothes - get a few items to get you started. And Always Check the Clearance Rack!

Are you an artist who wants to sell something?

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

I was recently contacted about the site, www.PutItOn.com, and thought it’s a good promotional tool for any artists, musicians, fashion designers, and filmmakers wanting to connect, display their portfolios, and sell their work (with NO commission taken!).

Or also if you’re a shopper and you want something unique to own - this is a great site to check out.

I love their tag line: Home to the world’s undiscovered artists.

Quality Instead of Quantity

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

untitled
How many times have you looked in your closet that’s full of clothes and said to yourself - I have nothing to wear.

It’s a common feeling.

But keep these helpful hints in mind when shopping:

Doubt means don’t – If you’re not totally sure about it, don’t buy it or it’s going to be another shirt or dress hanging in your closet that you don’t wear.

Buy clothes that you look and feel great in. — Don’t buy clothes that already need major alterations. Pant hems are a total exception, but just because it’s on clearance does not mean it’s a steal. You’re going to have to get it altered, it may never fit right and you’ll never wear it.

Here’s even more things to thing about when you have nothing to wear and you really ought to be thinking quality over quantity. (more…)
