Shoppers Remorse

There are 2 kinds of Shoppers Remorse.

1) I shouldn’t have bought that. It’s silly, didn’t even fit me right… or… I can’t really afford it.
2) I will wait and think about it. Returning on your second visit to buy the item, you learn it’s sold out or no longer available in your size.

Here are some tips on how to deal with shopper remorse - but really more so with the first kind listed above.

How to Avoid Shoppers Remorse:
1. Stay away from the mall and tempting locations. Since I have stopped going to the mall just for fun, I have lost SO many temptations. It’s hard to avoid Target, but if you get caught in a temptation there, it’s going to be alot cheaper than a mall store.

2. Don’t go shopping alone. Take a good friend.

Taking a shopping companion can be a real life voice reminding you to stay on the path of what you came there to look for and remind you the balance of your checking account.

3. Make a list of Needs vs. Wants If it’s going to be winter soon and you need a coat, this is more of a need. If you’re starting to interview or working in corporate America, a pair of plain black heels are a wise decision. Personally, I think shopping can be fun even if it’s something you need vs. a spoiled, bored shopping spree. If you are buying something that’s really more of a want, try to get it in a neutral color so you can wear it more or buy it at a cheaper retailer.

4. Sales don’t equal a must buy When we see items on sale, we instantly think it will cure any shoppers remorse than may come later. But really just because it’s on sale doen’t mean you have to buy it, you should, or it’s THAT great of a deal.

* Every once in awhile when we’ve been such good savy shoppers, not splurging on spoiling ourselves with a shopping spree, it really gets to us and you may think - Why do I work so hard if I can’t buy anything fun once in awhile? That’s really the key phrase - once in awhile. If you go on a little shopping spree, under $500 and you got more than 2 things, I don’t think you should beat yourself up about it. Even if the whole purchase went straight on your credit card. And please let me be exact in what I mean by once in awhile. I’m talking every 4-6 months. Not every weekend ladies!

I will leave you with a favorite quote I read once when you’re feeling a little shoppers remorse. Just think to yourself - I’m helping the economy.
